Water scarcity begins to take toll on sub-continental farming! Water Gel for Agriculture?

Don’t we often come across these lines frequently in newspapers nowadays?

Primary reasons being:

  • Population growth

  • Climate change and

  • Increased demand

We being responsible for this crisis first hand, would also be the ones regretting it in future. The most affected sector due to this problem is "Agriculture".

One of the major contributors to the economy, takes the biggest toll.

The semi-arid regions of Asia, the Middle-East and some parts of Africa, are all dealing with issues related to population growth, majority of them being below the poverty line. The demand for clean and consumable water is growing at a rapid rate and its availability for future is reaching its bleakness even faster.

Food Scarcity, Crop Infertility, Farmer Depression, Uprising of Raw Food Items are some catastrophic signs to begin with which proves that shortage of water has starting to take a toll on our society and needs to be immediately addressed.

A report says, By the end of 2020, around 30% of the living beings shall have to bear the worst consequences of water scarcity.

There might not be a concrete solution at present, but efforts can be made to check its effects. One smart usage that farmers can do is application of super absorbent polymer on their agriculture fields. This unique technology helps curbing water related problems up to a huge extent, and enhancing soil texture, dealing with moisture, water retention capacity, tenacity, etc.

How? Upon its spreading, this polymer mixes up with soil particles and swells up as soon as it comes in contact with water to form small water gels which act as temporary water reservoirs. These impart water retaining property to the roots of the plants, which otherwise dry out soon in targeted application areas. As the conditions dries up, it starts releasing water molecules, which can be directly accessed by them, ensuring uninterrupted water supply and normal growth.

Hydrogel with targeted agriculture view, are cross-linking molecular structures with a hydrophilic group attached to it. The latter absorbs water to about 500 – 600 times of its own weight and form a stable gel. Hydrogel acts as a water reservoir for plants, and traps excess irrigational, rain, and surface run-off water, for use later at the time of requirement over prolonged duration of dryness. Hydrogel polymer can also absorb nutrients from the soil which are utilized by plants for carrying out various physiological processes. One of the major advantages of hydrogel is that it is soil independent i.e. can be used on a wide variety of soils. Using Hydrogel polymer does not alter the chemical composition of soils on which it is applied, nor does it interfere with the action of other fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, etc.

Stable and effective over a wide range of temperatures, application of Alsta Hydrogel ensures following assured outcomes:

  • Increase in water absorbing ability

  • Increase in soil penetrability and infiltration rate

  • Reduction in irrigation frequency

  • Increase in plant performance, particularly in dry areas

  • Increase in crop production

  • Good profitability

  • Acts as a thermostat in sub-zero conditions

If we see the above outcomes carefully, about 70% water related problems can be mitigated ensuring profitable monetary benefits under limited or rather same resources.

We are just a mail away.
